How to Get Into The Lawrenceville School: Acceptance Rate, Fall 2027 Deadlines, Tuition and Aid
By Rona Aydin

Does Lawrenceville publish an acceptance rate?
No. The Lawrenceville admission, application process and tuition pages give no acceptance rate, applicant count or number of new students, so any rate quoted for the school is an outside estimate (Lawrenceville Admission; Lawrenceville Application Process). Lawrenceville is a boarding and day school for Grades 9 to 12 in Lawrenceville, New Jersey, and its testing rules also cover applicants for a postgraduate year. It is one of the ten member schools of the Ten Schools Admission Organization (Ten Schools).
In our view, the absence of a published rate means families should plan around what Lawrenceville does publish: its deadlines, its testing rules by grade and its interview window. Our guide to the Ten Schools compares Lawrenceville with the other nine member schools on tuition, aid and deadlines.
When are the Lawrenceville deadlines for fall 2027 entry?
Lawrenceville says “The application deadline is January 15 and admission decisions are announced March 10,” and that families “confirm their enrollment by April 10” (Lawrenceville Application Process). For students entering in fall 2027, those dates fall in 2027.
| Milestone | Date | Status on November 4, 2026 |
|---|---|---|
| Interviews begin | September 2026 | Under way |
| Day-student interviews end | November 13, 2026 | Open |
| Boarding-student interviews | Any time before January 15, 2027 | Open |
| Application deadline (Gateway to Prep Schools) | January 15, 2027 | Open |
| Financial aid application, new families | January 15, 2027 | Open |
| Decisions announced | March 10, 2027 | Upcoming |
| Enrollment reply | April 10, 2027 | Upcoming |
The nearest date is for day students. Lawrenceville says “Day student interviews are available until November 13, 2026,” while boarding-student interviews can be completed any time before the January 15 deadline. Campus visits are limited to families who have submitted Part 1 of the Gateway to Prep Schools application, so in our view a day-student family should submit Part 1 now. International applicants attending school abroad can interview online through Vericant, and Lawrenceville says a Vericant interview “fully satisfies Lawrenceville’s interview requirement.”
What does the Lawrenceville application require?
Lawrenceville uses the Gateway to Prep Schools application in three parts (Lawrenceville Application Process). Part 1, the Candidate Profile, opens campus tour and interview scheduling; the application fee is $50 for domestic applicants and $100 for international applicants. Part 2 is a parent or guardian personal statement and the student essays. Part 3 is the school record, recommendations and testing:
- Grade reports for the current marking period and the past two years. For a Grade 9 applicant, that means Grades 6 and 7 plus the first marking period of Grade 8.
- Recommendations from the current principal or counselor, the current English teacher and the current mathematics teacher.
- Test scores by entering grade, as shown in the table below.
| Entering grade | Lawrenceville name | Required tests |
|---|---|---|
| Grade 9 | Second Form | SSAT or ISEE, taken on or after June |
| Grade 10 | Third Form | SSAT, ISEE, PSAT, SAT or ACT, taken on or after June |
| Grade 11 | Fourth Form | SSAT, ISEE, PSAT, SAT or ACT |
| Grade 12 and postgraduate year | Fifth Form and PostGraduate | PSAT, SAT or ACT |
In our experience, the student essays and the interview are where a strong applicant becomes a distinct one, because they are the parts of the file that show how a student thinks and talks, which matters at a school built around discussion.
What does Lawrenceville cost, and who receives financial aid?
Comprehensive tuition for 2026-27 is $82,710 for boarding students and $68,060 for day students, and Lawrenceville says its tuition is “inclusive of most fees.” Families of Fifth Form students pay a $525 fee for senior-year events, reduced in proportion to any financial aid, international students must buy health insurance through the school ($2,895 for a 12-month plan or $2,595 for a 10-month plan), and families also pay for a laptop, a cell phone, books and supplies (Lawrenceville Tuition, Costs and Affordability). Boarding costs $14,650 more than day tuition, by our calculation.
Lawrenceville offers financial aid to domestic applicants through need-based grants. It says “More than 30% of our current families receive need-based grants” and “We meet 100% of a family’s demonstrated need.” Aid applications go through Clarity and are due January 15 (December 15 for returning families). Its 2026-27 table shows the average award and average cost to aided families by income:
| Family income | Average aid award | Average cost to family |
|---|---|---|
| Under $125,000 | $72,697 | $5,574 |
| $125,000 to $200,000 | $69,960 | $8,154 |
| $200,000 to $275,000 | $61,359 | $14,392 |
| $275,000 to $350,000 | $52,351 | $25,671 |
| $350,000 to $425,000 | $39,577 | $38,250 |
| Over $425,000 | $41,054 | $37,347 |
In our view, the table shows that aid reaches well into upper-middle incomes: the average cost to aided families earning $275,000 to $350,000 is $25,671 in 2026-27. Families should apply for aid on the same timeline as admission, since Lawrenceville says the aid application “is concurrent with application for admission.”
Where do Lawrenceville graduates go to college?
Lawrenceville lists the colleges where “five or more Lawrentians have matriculated in the last five years,” with a count for each (Lawrenceville College Counseling). It does not state the class sizes behind the list, so we do not convert the counts into percentages.
| College | Lawrentians matriculating, last five years |
|---|---|
| Cornell University | 42 |
| New York University | 41 |
| University of Pennsylvania | 36 |
| Princeton University | 32 |
| Georgetown University | 30 |
| Columbia University | 28 |
| Brown University | 26 |
| Harvard University | 25 |
| University of Chicago | 21 |
| Tufts University | 21 |
| Duke University | 20 |
| University of Michigan | 19 |
| Northwestern University | 16 |
| Stanford University | 14 |
| Johns Hopkins University | 14 |
| Yale University | 13 |
| Dartmouth College | 8 |
| Massachusetts Institute of Technology | 7 |
By our calculation, the eight Ivy League universities on this list enrolled 210 Lawrentians over five years, and Harvard, Yale, Princeton, Stanford and MIT together enrolled 91. Princeton, with 32, is the third most common Ivy League destination on the list after Cornell and Penn. Our guides to Ivy League acceptance rates and how to get into Princeton cover the college side.
What makes Lawrenceville distinctive?
Two features shape daily life. The first is discussion-based teaching: Lawrenceville says “the Harkness table is the cornerstone of learning at Lawrenceville” (Lawrenceville Academics). The second is the House system. Lawrenceville says “Each Lawrenceville student belongs to a House,” and that a House “also serves as home base for our day students.” Houses sit in three areas of campus, one for Second Formers (Grade 9), one for Third and Fourth Formers (Grades 10 and 11) and one for the Fifth Form (Grade 12), and Heads of House live in the residences with students (Lawrenceville Student Life).
In our view, the House structure matters for day applicants too: they belong to a House, so a day applicant should show how they would take part in House life as well as in class. Families comparing nearby New Jersey schools can also read our guides to Peddie and Princeton Day School.
How should families plan a Lawrenceville application now?
In the view of Oriel Admissions, a family applying for fall 2027 should submit Part 1 of the Gateway application now, book the interview (by November 13, 2026 for day students), make sure a Grade 9 applicant has an SSAT or ISEE score from June 2026 or later, and request the three recommendations before the winter break. File the Clarity aid application alongside the admission application, since both are due January 15, 2027. In our experience, a specific explanation of why Lawrenceville fits, tied to Harkness classes or House life, is more persuasive than general praise of the school. Our guide to reach, match and safety schools explains how to balance a list that includes several Ten Schools members.
