By Sean Khottavong

For the Class of 2028, Brown University maintained its highly selective admissions process, with an overall acceptance rate of just 5.2%. Out of 48,904 total applicants, only 2,638 students were offered admission. Brown’s Early Decision program was significantly more favorable, with an acceptance rate of 14.4%, nearly three times the regular rate. Of those admitted, 898 were accepted through Early Decision, accounting for 52% of the incoming class. This data highlights the strategic advantage of applying Early Decision for students strongly committed to attending Brown.

Standardized Testing

The standardized test scores of Brown University’s admitted first-year students for the Class of 2028 underscore the school’s highly selective academic profile. For those who submitted SAT scores, a significant majority demonstrated top-tier performance: 73.8% scored between 750–800 in Evidence-Based Reading and Writing, while an even higher 88.9% scored in that top range for Math. In contrast, fewer than 3% of admitted students scored below 690 in either section. For ACT scores, 72.1% of admitted students earned a composite score between 35–36, and 23.9% scored between 32–34. Only 4% of admitted students had ACT scores below 32. These statistics reflect the exceptional academic caliber of Brown’s admitted class, with the vast majority performing at or near the highest possible levels on standardized tests.

For those interested in specialized programs, Brown offers the Program in Liberal Medical Education (PLME) and the Brown-RISD Dual Degree Program. The PLME admitted 76 students from 4,251 applicants, reflecting its highly competitive nature.
