How Do You Apply to the Emory Scholars Program?
Emory has reduced the process to two steps. First, choose an admission plan, Early Decision I, Early Decision II, or Regular Decision, and submit all required application materials by the scholar deadline: November 1 for Early Decision I and November 15 for Early Decision II and Regular Decision. Second, answer yes to the application question, “Are you interested in being considered for the Emory University Scholar Programs?”, because Emory says applicants will not be considered otherwise (Emory Admissions, Scholar Programs). First-year, homeschooled, and international applicants, regardless of citizenship, can apply. Emory confirms that Early Decision II and Regular Decision applicants must submit all application materials by November 15, which is the trap inside Regular Decision: a family planning to finish an application closer to the later admission deadline silently forfeits scholar consideration (Emory Admissions FAQs). Emory also says that if a student’s ability to enroll depends on receiving a specific amount of merit scholarship or need-based aid, it strongly encourages applying Regular Decision, because scholar program awards are not finalized until early April, after the Early Decision I and Early Decision II deposit deadlines. Can Current Emory Students Still Win Merit Scholarships?
Yes, through competitive scholarships run by the Emory College Honors and Scholars office for students already at Emory (Emory College, Competitive Scholarships). The Dean’s Achievement Scholarship provides rising sophomores in Emory College up to six semesters of merit aid at $5,000 per semester, or $10,000 per year, recognizing academic success and substantive co-curricular or community engagement and leadership in the first year; there are typically 8 to 10 awards per year. Students with a 3.75 GPA at the end of the fall semester are invited to apply, although an invitation is not required, and applicants must remain in Emory College rather than Nursing, Goizueta, or Oxford. For the current cycle, eligible students are notified on February 24, 2027, applications open March 1, the deadline is May 16, and decisions are released June 18. The same office runs the Sonny Carter Scholarship, with up to four awards of $25,000 for a student’s fourth year, and the Sam Bredow Memorial Scholarship, with up to three awards of $10,000 for students who participate in Jewish life at Emory.
