NYU’s Acceptance Rate Hits Record Low: What Applicants Should Know
New York University has once again set a new benchmark in selectivity, with its acceptance rate dropping to just 7.7% for the 2024–25 admissions cycle, the lowest acceptance rate in the school’s history. More than 120,000 students applied to NYU this year, making it the most sought-after private university in the country by application volume. This is a rise from last year’s application volume of 118,000.
The competition was especially fierce at NYU’s most prestigious schools: the College of Arts & Science, the Stern School of Business, and the Rory Meyers College of Nursing, all of which reported acceptance rates under 5%. The university also saw a record-breaking 25,000+ Early Decision applicants, marking a 10% increase from last year.
NYU’s incoming class is not only highly selective but also deeply diverse, with students representing all 50 states and 128 countries. Approximately 20% of admitted students are Pell Grant recipients, and another 20% are first-generation college students.
