HEC Paris has not published an updated figure, and GMAC lists it at 18% in its July 2026 review. The MBA Class of 2026 has 268 students, 60 nationalities, 95% international participants and 40% women, with an average age of 30 and six years of work experience. The average GMAT of the current class is 635, which HEC Paris equates to 690 on the former scale. What Is the HEC Paris Acceptance Rate?

HEC Paris does not print an acceptance rate on its current MBA admissions pages. The last HEC Paris acceptance rate the school itself circulated is 17.5%. It appears in an item in the HEC Paris newsroom dated October 31, 2018, which carries a Poets and Quants report stating that 2,231 candidates applied to the MBA in the prior year, a 5% increase, and that the school admitted 17.5% of them. Those two numbers imply roughly 390 offers.

The more recent reference is the GMAC review of acceptance rates at the top ten schools in the 2026 Financial Times Global MBA Ranking, published in July 2026. It lists HEC Paris at 18% and states that schools outside the United States either do not publish official figures or have not released any since 2019. The two sources agree on the level. Neither is a current official statistic.

How Does the HEC Paris Acceptance Rate Compare With Other Top Schools?

In the GMAC review, the HEC Paris acceptance rate of 18% is one of four figures below 20% among the Financial Times top ten, alongside MIT Sloan, Wharton and Harvard Business School. It is the lowest figure listed for any school outside the United States.

Harvard Business School11.2%Updated in 2026

Read the table with its limits in mind. The US figures were updated in 2026 and the European ones were not. HEC Paris also enrolls a much smaller class than the large US programs, so a modest change in application volume moves its admit rate more than it would at a school with 900 seats. For the US side of the comparison, our guide to what the M7 schools publish works from the application and enrollment counts each school reports.

What GMAT or GRE Score Do You Need for HEC Paris?

The HEC Paris requirements page states that the average GMAT score of the current class is 635, which equates to 690 on the former edition of the exam. There is no minimum score for any of the accepted tests. The school encourages candidates to show balance across the three sections of the exam and says it evaluates each application as a whole.

HEC Paris accepts the GMAT, the GMAC Executive Assessment and the GRE. Scores must be less than five years old. Candidates who hold a top ranked Master in Management degree may qualify for a test waiver, and the school asks them to contact admissions for details.

If your score sits below 635, a retake is the most direct fix before you spend your one application for the cycle. Our GMAT prep guide covers how to plan one around a monthly deadline.

Who Gets Into the HEC Paris MBA?

The Class of 2026 profile shows 268 students from 60 nationalities, with 95% international participants, 40% women, an average age of 30 and six years of average work experience. HEC Paris describes the ideal candidate as having between 2 and 10 years of professional experience, and it strongly encourages at least two years.

An undergraduate degree from an accredited university is the standard requirement. HEC Paris may waive it for candidates who completed secondary education and have at least five years of professional experience, including three in a managerial position, or for athletes who have represented their country at national level.

For a US applicant, the class composition is the point to weigh. With 95% of the class from outside France, you will not be an outlier as an international student, and English is the only language required for admission. The campus is in Jouy-en-Josas, about 10 miles outside Paris, and most MBA students live there.

How Much Does the HEC Paris MBA Cost?

The HEC Paris fees page lists tuition of €102,000 for both the January 2027 and September 2027 intakes: a €9,000 deposit followed by installments of €47,000 and €46,000. The application fee is €200 and is not refundable. The school publishes its living cost estimates on a 16 month basis, which is the length of the program.

All admitted candidates can apply for scholarships. HEC Paris says it offers more than €1,000,000 in aid to MBA students each year through the HEC Foundation.

What Are the HEC Paris MBA Deadlines for the 2027 Intakes?

HEC Paris has two intakes, January and September, and reviews applications against monthly deadlines instead of three or four large rounds. You receive a decision within five weeks of the deadline you apply to.

After the last listed deadline, admissions continue on a rolling basis. HEC Paris notes that deadlines may change and that registrations generally close one month before the start of the course. It encourages early applications, especially if you need campus housing or a student visa.

One rule matters for planning: you may apply only once per graduating cycle, which covers a September intake and the following January intake. There is no second attempt a few months later, so the timing of your application should follow the strength of your file, not the earliest date.

The application includes essays, two recommendations, a resume, transcripts and a test score. Our guide to the HEC Paris MBA essays covers the written section, and our guide to building an MBA school list covers how a European program fits beside US options.

Does This Figure Apply to the HEC Paris Master in Management?

No. Every number on this page is for the MBA, which is a program for candidates with work experience. The Master in Management is a separate degree with its own admissions process and its own applicant pool, and the HEC Paris acceptance rate figures above do not describe it. If you are applying to that program, start from the HEC Paris Master in Management admissions page.

How Do Other European MBA Programs Compare?

None of the leading European business schools publishes a current acceptance rate, so the useful comparison is what each one does publish about its class, its fees and its calendar. We cover the others school by school: the INSEAD acceptance rate, the IESE MBA acceptance rate, the London Business School acceptance rate, the Oxford MBA acceptance rate and the Cambridge MBA acceptance rate. We also cover the IE Business School acceptance rate, and our guide to the best MBA programs in Europe compares all seven schools side by side.
