TL;DR: INSEAD does not publish an official acceptance rate. GMAC lists the INSEAD acceptance rate at about 30% in its July 2026 review, one of the two highest figures among the top ten schools in the 2026 Financial Times ranking, and notes that schools outside the United States have not released official figures since 2019. What INSEAD does publish is the shape of a typical MBA class: 900 to 950 students across two intakes, around 90 nationalities, 38% women, an average age of 29 and three to eight years of work experience. Tuition is €109,860 for the August 2026 and January 2027 intakes. For the August 2027 intake, Round 2 closes November 3, 2026, Round 3 closes January 19, 2027 and Round 4 closes March 9, 2027 (Sources: INSEAD MBA program, admissions and financing pages; GMAC review of MBA acceptance rates, July 2026). What Is the INSEAD Acceptance Rate?
INSEAD does not print an acceptance rate, and it does not publish the number of applications it receives. The INSEAD acceptance rate in circulation is about 30%. It comes from the GMAC review of acceptance rates at the top ten schools in the 2026 Financial Times Global MBA Ranking, published in July 2026, which lists INSEAD at 30% alongside CEIBS at around 30% as the only two schools in the top ten at or above that level.
The same review is clear about the limits of the number. It states that schools outside the United States either do not publish official figures or have not released any since 2019. So the INSEAD acceptance rate you see quoted is a reference point, not a current statistic. What you can verify directly is what INSEAD says about the class it enrolls.
| What INSEAD publishes | Typical MBA class |
|---|---|
| Students per year | 900 to 950, across January and August intakes |
| Nationalities | Around 90 |
| Work or home countries | 75 |
| Women | 38% |
| Average age | 29 (range 23 to 35) |
| Work experience | 3 to 8 years |
| Applications received | Not published |
| Acceptance rate | Not published |
Why Is the INSEAD Acceptance Rate Higher Than the Figures for US Schools?
Set against the US schools in the GMAC review, INSEAD sits at the top of the range.
| School | Acceptance rate in the GMAC review | Status of the figure |
|---|---|---|
| Stanford GSB | 6.8% | Updated in 2026; outside the FT top ten |
| Harvard Business School | 11.2% | Updated in 2026 |
| HEC Paris | 18% | Unofficial or not updated since 2019 |
| Wharton | 18.6% | Updated in 2026 |
| MIT Sloan | 18.8% | Updated in 2026 |
| London Business School | 20% | Dates from 2019 |
| Esade | 20% | Dates from 2019 |
| Berkeley Haas | 21.4% | Updated in 2026 |
| IESE | 26% | Unofficial or not updated since 2019 |
| INSEAD | 30% | Unofficial or not updated since 2019 |
| CEIBS | Around 30% | Unofficial or not updated since 2019 |
Part of the explanation is scale and format. INSEAD enrolls 900 to 950 students a year, split across two intakes and two starting campuses in France and Singapore. The program lasts one year, so a candidate gives up one year of salary instead of two, and the class is drawn from around 90 nationalities. Those features produce a different applicant pool from a two year US program, and admit rates across the two are not like for like.
A 30% INSEAD acceptance rate is also not a signal of an easy admit. INSEAD looks for three to eight years of experience and asks every candidate for a GMAT or GRE score with no waiver. For the US side of the comparison, our guide to what the M7 schools publish works from the application and enrollment counts each school reports.
What GMAT or GRE Score Do You Need for INSEAD?
INSEAD has no minimum GMAT score. Its MBA FAQs say the school assesses your results in each section of the test instead of the overall score, and they give recommended ranges.
| Test | INSEAD recommendation |
|---|---|
| GMAT (current edition), Verbal | 60th percentile (a score of 80) |
| GMAT (current edition), Quantitative | 66th percentile (a score of 80) |
| GMAT (current edition), Data Insights | 66th percentile (a score of 77) |
| GMAT (10th edition, 2012 to 2024) | 70th percentile or above in both quantitative and verbal, and 6 or above in Integrated Reasoning |
The school accepts the GMAT and the GRE with no preference between them. The test cannot be waived, scores are valid for five years, and you can sit the test up to the day of your application deadline. If you report more than one score, the Admissions Committee reviews the full history and places the greatest weight on your highest score. INSEAD also accepts the GMAT superscore.
The practical reading is that balance matters more than a headline total. A strong overall score with a weak quantitative section does not meet the recommendation. Our GMAT prep guide covers how to plan section by section.
Who Gets Into the INSEAD MBA?
INSEAD describes the typical MBA class as 900 to 950 students with an average age of 29, a range of 23 to 35, and three to eight years of work experience. A typical class has around 90 nationalities and 38% women. The most common backgrounds are management consulting, financial services, corporate roles, and technology, media and telecom.
The school lists four admissions criteria: ability to contribute, academic capacity, international motivation and leadership potential. International motivation is the one that separates INSEAD from most US programs. If your career to date has been in one country, your application needs to show a real reason for a program built around 90 nationalities and two continents.
An undergraduate degree is not compulsory. INSEAD says candidates without one who have an excellent career record and GMAT score are welcome to apply, though the large majority of the class holds a degree.
How Much Does the INSEAD MBA Cost?
The INSEAD financing page lists tuition of €109,860 for the August 2026 intake and the same amount for the January 2027 intake, inclusive of applicable taxes. The fee for the August 2027 intake was not yet listed when this page was written. Tuition is paid in installments, starting with a non-refundable first installment of €12,000 due about four weeks after the offer.
The application fee is €250. An optional Business Foundations program before the start costs €2,040 in person for the August intake or €1,530 online for the January intake. INSEAD reports more than 170 scholarship funds, with 41% of participants receiving a scholarship and an average award of €24,000.
What Are the INSEAD Deadlines for the August 2027 Intake?
INSEAD runs four rounds for each intake. The admissions page lists these dates for the August 2027 intake. Applications must be complete by midnight French time on the deadline day.
| Round | Application deadline | Interview decision | Final decision |
|---|---|---|---|
| Round 1 | September 15, 2026 | October 16, 2026 | November 20, 2026 |
| Round 2 | November 3, 2026 | December 4, 2026 | January 22, 2027 |
| Round 3 | January 19, 2027 | February 19, 2027 | March 19, 2027 |
| Round 4 | March 9, 2027 | April 9, 2027 | May 7, 2027 |
Applications for the January 2027 intake closed with Round 4 on August 25, 2026. INSEAD does not generally grant deferrals, so apply for the intake you intend to join.
After you submit, you complete a video assessment within 48 hours of the deadline: four video questions with 45 seconds to prepare and 60 seconds to answer each, followed by one written question with five minutes to respond. Pre-selected candidates then interview with two INSEAD alumni, usually in their country of residence. The full process takes up to 10 weeks from submission. INSEAD advises non-European citizens to apply early because a student visa for France can take several months.
The one year format changes how recruiting works, and it is worth understanding before you commit. Our guides to US recruiting from one year MBA programs and the one year MBA job search cover the timeline, and our guide to building an MBA school list covers how INSEAD fits beside US options. Our list of one year MBA programs shows how the format compares across ten schools.
How Do Other European MBA Programs Compare?
None of the leading European business schools publishes a current acceptance rate, so the useful comparison is what each one does publish about its class, its fees and its calendar. We cover the others school by school: the IESE MBA acceptance rate, the London Business School acceptance rate, the HEC Paris acceptance rate, the Oxford MBA acceptance rate and the Cambridge MBA acceptance rate. We also cover the IE Business School acceptance rate, and our guide to the best MBA programs in Europe compares all seven schools side by side.
