TL;DR: The Kellogg One-Year MBA Class of 2026 has 118 students, and INSEAD seats 900 to 950 students a year in its one year MBA. That contrast defines one year MBA programs: in Europe the one year format is the main degree at INSEAD, Oxford, Cambridge and IMD, while in the United States it is a small track with entry conditions. Kellogg requires prior coursework in statistics and economics, and the Duke Fuqua Accelerated Daytime MBA requires a prior masters in management or a similar degree. Tuition is US$123,600 at Kellogg, US$139,030 at Cornell Tech, €109,860 at INSEAD and £86,250 at Cambridge. Notre Dame discontinued its One-Year MBA at the end of the 2023-24 academic year (Sources: the MBA program, tuition and admissions pages of each school). Which Schools Offer One Year MBA Programs?
A one year MBA compresses the degree into a year or less and drops the summer internship that sits in the middle of a two year program. The format exists in two very different markets. In Europe it is the standard MBA at several of the highest ranked schools. In the United States it is a smaller track that sits beside the two year program and usually comes with entry conditions.
The two tables list ten one year MBA programs with the length and tuition each school publishes for the most recent intake it lists.
| US program | Length | Tuition | What to know |
|---|---|---|---|
| Kellogg One-Year MBA | June to June | US$123,600 | 118 students in the Class of 2026; prior coursework in statistics and economics required |
| Johnson Cornell Tech MBA | One year, in New York City | US$139,030 | Separate application from the two year Cornell MBA in Ithaca |
| Emory Goizueta One-Year MBA | 12 months | US$118,800 | 37 students in the Class of 2026, averaging 7 years of work experience; four tracks |
| Duke Fuqua Accelerated Daytime MBA | Less than a year | US$107,900 | Open only to holders of a masters in management or a similar business masters |
| European program | Length | Tuition | What to know |
|---|---|---|---|
| INSEAD MBA | One year | €109,860 | 900 to 950 students a year across January and August intakes |
| Oxford Saïd MBA | One year | £94,120 | 332 students in the 2025-26 class |
| Cambridge Judge MBA | One year | £86,250 | 222 students; minimum of two years of work experience |
| IMD MBA | One year, January to December | CHF 97,500 | 90 students; minimum of two years of work experience |
| IE Business School International MBA | 11 months, with longer options | €89,900 | Rolling admissions; minimum of three years of work experience |
| London Business School One-year MBA | 11 months | £77,950 | 33 students in the 2026 class; open only to holders of a masters in management |
Three names that often appear on lists of one year MBA programs are missing from these tables: Notre Dame, Columbia and HEC Paris. The reasons are covered below.
Why Is the One Year MBA Larger in Europe Than in the United States?
The difference in scale is large. INSEAD seats 900 to 950 students a year in a one year program. Oxford enrolled 332 students in its 2025-26 class and Cambridge lists 222. In the United States, the Kellogg One-Year MBA Class of 2026 has 118 students beside a two year class of 534, and the Emory One-Year MBA Class of 2026 has 37.
The reason is what each program is for. In Europe the one year MBA is the flagship degree, built for candidates with around five or six years of experience, and employers there recruit from it without an internship. IMD reports that 92% of its graduates change role, industry or geography after the MBA, and that 80% receive at least one job offer within three months of graduation.
In the United States the two year program, with its summer internship, is the main route into structured recruiting. The one year track is designed for people who do not need that internship. Kellogg says so directly: its One-Year MBA is for candidates who have focused career goals and are not seeking to make a major career switch.
Who Can Apply to One Year MBA Programs in the United States?
US one year MBA programs save time by skipping material, so each one asks you to show that you already have it.
Kellogg. You must have completed coursework in statistics and economics before the summer quarter. Kellogg states that each course must carry a grade of B or better, and that the graduation date on the transcript must fall within 10 years of your application. Work experience, AP credits, CFA certifications and online courses completed earlier are not accepted in place of the coursework. Marketing and operations can be taken at Kellogg during the summer quarter. In return, you can bypass core classes and move straight to electives.
Duke Fuqua. The Accelerated Daytime MBA is open only to candidates who hold the Duke Master of Management Studies, a masters in management or equivalent from an accredited graduate business school, or a comparable masters in quantitative management or business analytics. Duke also lists specific prior courses. Graduates of a two year MBA are not eligible.
Cornell. The Johnson Cornell Tech MBA is a one year program on Roosevelt Island in New York City, built around studio projects with engineering, law and design students. It has its own application, which Cornell says is not transferable across its MBA programs. Our guides to the Cornell Tech MBA essays and to a tech MBA versus a traditional MBA cover that program in detail.
Emory Goizueta. The One-Year MBA runs 12 months in four tracks: Accelerated, Global, Healthcare and Real Estate. The full core is taught in the summer semester. The Class of 2026 averages seven years of work experience, against an average of 5.1 years in the Kellogg two year Class of 2027, so expect a more senior room.
European programs set a work experience floor instead of a prerequisite degree: two years at Cambridge and IMD, three at IE Business School. The London Business School One-year MBA is the exception. It admits only holders of a masters in management or equivalent with at least three years of work experience. Our guide to masters in management vs MBA explains that route.
Which One Year MBA Programs Have Closed or Changed?
Lists of one year MBA programs go out of date quickly. Check the school before you plan around a program.
Notre Dame. Mendoza College of Business states that it discontinued the Notre Dame One-Year MBA at the end of the 2023-24 academic year and no longer accepts applications for it. Its two year MBA is unaffected.
Cornell. The Cornell program finder currently lists two full time MBA programs: the two year Cornell MBA in Ithaca and the one year Johnson Cornell Tech MBA in New York City.
Columbia. J-Term is sometimes described as a one year MBA. It is not. It starts in January and runs 16 months without an internship window, as our page on the Columbia MBA acceptance rate explains.
HEC Paris and IESE. Both are shorter than a US two year MBA but longer than one year. The HEC Paris MBA runs 16 months and the IESE MBA runs 15 or 19 months.
How Much Do One Year MBA Programs Cost Compared With Two Year Programs?
Less, but not half. Where a school runs both formats, the one year tuition is between about 63% and 78% of the two year tuition.
| School | One year tuition | Two year tuition | One year as a share |
|---|---|---|---|
| Kellogg | US$123,600 | US$88,536 for the first year, or US$177,072 for two years at the 2026-27 rate | About 70% |
| Cornell | US$139,030 (Cornell Tech) | US$177,868 estimated total (Ithaca) | About 78% |
| Duke Fuqua | US$107,900 | US$83,700 for the first year, or US$167,400 for two years at that rate | About 64% |
| London Business School | £77,950 | £123,950 (15 to 21 months) | About 63% |
Duke explains why: its accelerated students take more than half of the two year course credits in one year, and tuition is set as a percentage of the two year price. The larger saving is outside tuition. You pay one year of living costs instead of two, and you give up one year of salary instead of two. Kellogg puts food and housing at US$30,588 for its One-Year MBA in its 2026-27 cost estimate.
What Do You Give Up Without the Internship?
The summer internship is how most two year MBA students change industry or function. Without it, you recruit for a full time role while you are still taking core courses, and you have less time to test a new field. That is manageable if you are returning to your industry, are sponsored by your employer or already know the role you want. It is harder if you want a complete change.
The outcomes the schools publish are strong for the people who choose this format. Kellogg reports that 92% of its One-Year MBA Class of 2025 accepted a job offer within six months of graduation, with median total compensation of US$187,100. Our guides to one year MBA job search strategy and one year MBA recruiting in the United States cover the recruiting calendar and visa questions.
When Are the Application Deadlines for 2027 Entry?
| Program | Application deadlines for 2027 entry |
|---|---|
| Kellogg One-Year MBA | September 9, 2026; January 6 and March 31, 2027 |
| Johnson Cornell Tech MBA | October 8, 2026 (priority); January 7, 2027; rolling until March 4, 2027 |
| Emory Goizueta One-Year MBA | September 30, 2026; January 6 and March 3, 2027 |
| Duke Fuqua Accelerated Daytime MBA | September 23, 2026; January 5 and March 18, 2027 |
| INSEAD MBA, August 2027 intake | September 15 and November 3, 2026; January 19 and March 9, 2027 |
| Oxford Saïd MBA | September 2, October 5 and November 4, 2026; January 6 and March 15, 2027 |
| Cambridge Judge MBA | August 24 and October 5, 2026; January 4, March 22 and May 4, 2027 |
| IE Business School International MBA | Rolling, with no fixed deadline |
Two timing points matter. US one year programs start in the summer, in June at Kellogg, so the gap between an offer and the first class is short. And Emory encourages One-Year MBA candidates to apply by its second round. IMD starts in January and lists October 13, 2026 as its next deadline.
How Should You Choose Among One Year MBA Programs?
Start with eligibility, because it removes options quickly. If you do not hold a masters in management, the Duke and London Business School one year programs are closed to you. If you have not taken statistics and economics for credit, Kellogg will ask you to complete approved courses first.
Then be honest about the career change you want. If you are staying in your field or returning to an employer, a US one year program gives you the same degree in less time. If you want to change industry and work in the United States, the two year program and its internship remain the safer route, and our guide to MBA acceptance rates at the M7 is the place to start. If you are open to working in Europe or Asia, the European one year MBA programs are the main degree at their schools, with large classes and recruiters used to hiring without an internship. Our guide to the best MBA programs in Europe compares seven of those schools.
Finally, check the test score and the school list together. Our GMAT prep guide and our guide to building an MBA school list cover both.
Frequently Asked Questions About One Year MBA Programs
In the United States, one year MBA programs include the Kellogg One-Year MBA, the Johnson Cornell Tech MBA, the Emory Goizueta One-Year MBA and the Duke Fuqua Accelerated Daytime MBA. In Europe, INSEAD, Oxford, Cambridge, IMD and IE Business School run one year programs, and London Business School offers a One-year MBA for holders of a masters in management.
A year or less. IE Business School and the London Business School One-year MBA run 11 months, Emory runs 12 months, and INSEAD, Oxford, Cambridge and IMD describe their programs as one year. Kellogg runs from June to June.
Tuition is 123,600 US dollars at Kellogg, 139,030 US dollars at Cornell Tech, 118,800 US dollars at Emory and 107,900 US dollars for the Duke Accelerated Daytime MBA. In Europe it is 109,860 euros at INSEAD, 94,120 pounds at Oxford, 86,250 pounds at Cambridge and 97,500 Swiss francs at IMD.
Yes, but not by half. At Kellogg, one year tuition of 123,600 US dollars is about 70 percent of two years of tuition at the 2026-27 rate. At Duke it is about 64 percent and at London Business School about 63 percent. The larger saving is one year of living costs and one year of salary.
It depends on the school. Kellogg requires completed coursework in statistics and economics. The Duke Accelerated Daytime MBA and the London Business School One-year MBA require a masters in management or a similar degree. INSEAD, Oxford, Cambridge and IMD do not require a prior business degree.
No. The Mendoza College of Business states that it discontinued the Notre Dame One-Year MBA at the end of the 2023-24 academic year and no longer accepts applications for it. The two year Notre Dame MBA continues.
Generally no. A one year MBA drops the summer internship that sits between the two years of a traditional program. That suits candidates who are staying in their field or returning to an employer, and it makes a full career change harder.
There is no published evidence either way. None of the schools in this guide publishes a separate acceptance rate for its one year MBA. US one year programs add entry conditions, such as prior coursework at Kellogg or a prior masters at Duke, which narrow who can apply.
