TL;DR: Five of the top seven schools in the Financial Times Global MBA Ranking 2026 are European: INSEAD is second, IESE and London Business School tie for fourth, HEC Paris is sixth and Esade is seventh. Cambridge Judge is 17th, IE Business School 21st and Oxford Saïd 27th. Among the best MBA programs in Europe, none of the seven profiled here publishes a current acceptance rate. Published fees run from £86,250 at Cambridge to £123,950 at London Business School, and from €89,900 at IE to €117,000 at IESE. Program length runs from one year at INSEAD, Oxford and Cambridge to as long as 21 months at London Business School (Sources: Financial Times Global MBA Ranking 2026; the MBA admissions pages of each school; GMAC review of MBA acceptance rates, July 2026). What Are the Best MBA Programs in Europe?
There is no single official list. The ranking candidates and recruiters cite most often is the Financial Times Global MBA Ranking, and its 2026 edition places five European schools in the top seven worldwide. MIT Sloan is first and Wharton is third. Every other place in the top seven belongs to a European school.
| FT 2026 rank | School | Country of primary campus | Weighted salary (US$) |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2 | INSEAD | France | 217,822 |
| 4 (tie) | IESE | Spain | 196,560 |
| 4 (tie) | London Business School | UK | 217,389 |
| 6 | HEC Paris | France | 200,984 |
| 7 | Esade | Spain | 206,389 |
| 17 | Cambridge Judge | UK | 197,370 |
| 21 | IE Business School | Spain | 176,305 |
| 22 | ESCP | France | 142,324 |
| 24 | Essec | France | 139,055 |
| 27 | Oxford Saïd | UK | 189,841 |
| 30 | IMD | Switzerland | 183,444 |
A ranking is one input. It does not tell you which school will admit you, what the degree costs or whether the calendar fits your plans. The rest of this guide compares seven of these schools on those points, using the pages each school publishes. Each linked school has its own page with the full detail.
How Do the Best MBA Programs in Europe Compare on Class Size, Scores and Cost?
The table below uses the most recent figures on each admissions site. GMAT figures are on the current scale of the exam.
| School | Class size | GMAT as published | Fee as published | Length |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| INSEAD | 900 to 950 a year, two intakes | No average; percentiles recommended by section | €109,860 (August 2026 and January 2027 intakes) | One year |
| IESE | More than 370 | Range of 545 to 715 | €117,000 (September 2027 intake) | 15 or 19 months |
| London Business School | 514 | Average around 645 | £123,950 (2026 intake) | 15 to 21 months |
| HEC Paris | 268 | Average 635 | €102,000 (2027 intakes) | 16 months |
| Cambridge Judge | 222 | Mean around 635 | £86,250 (September 2027 entry) | One year |
| IE Business School | Not listed | Not listed; GMAT, GRE or ieGAT accepted | €89,900 (11 and 15 month durations) | 11, 15 or 19/23 months |
| Oxford Saïd | 332 | Median 635 | £94,120 (2027-28) | One year |
Three points stand out. The published scores cluster in a narrow band: 635 at HEC Paris, Oxford and Cambridge, and around 645 at London Business School. Class sizes do not: INSEAD enrolls roughly four times as many students a year as Cambridge. And the fees are quoted for different intakes and in two currencies, so compare them in the currency you will pay in and add living costs.
Do the Best Business Schools in Europe Publish Acceptance Rates?
No. None of the seven schools publishes a current official acceptance rate. The GMAC review of acceptance rates at the top ten schools in the Financial Times ranking, published in July 2026, states that schools outside the United States either do not publish official figures or have not released any since 2019, and that estimates for leading European schools range from 20% to 30%.
| School | Figure in circulation | Source and status |
|---|---|---|
| HEC Paris | 17.5% to 18% | School newsroom item from 2018; GMAC review |
| London Business School | 20% | GMAC review; dates from 2019 |
| IESE | 26% | GMAC review; unofficial or not updated since 2019 |
| INSEAD | About 30% | GMAC review; unofficial or not updated since 2019 |
| Oxford Saïd | None | Not listed in the GMAC review |
| Cambridge Judge | None | Not listed in the GMAC review |
| IE Business School | None | Not listed in the GMAC review |
For comparison, the same review lists Stanford at 6.8% and Harvard Business School at 11.2% for 2026. Those figures are current and the European ones are not, so the gap is not measured on the same basis. Our guide to what the M7 schools publish covers the US side.
How Is a European MBA Different From a US MBA?
The first difference is length. INSEAD, Oxford and Cambridge run one year programs, and HEC Paris runs 16 months. London Business School, IESE and IE offer longer formats, up to 21, 19 and 23 months. A shorter program means less time out of work, and it also means less time to change direction before recruiting starts. Our guide to one year MBA programs covers that format in the United States and Europe.
The second difference is who is in the room. HEC Paris reports 95% international participants, Oxford 96%, IE 92% and IESE 89%. London Business School says about 90% of its class comes from outside the UK, and INSEAD describes a typical class of around 90 nationalities. No home market dominates any of these classes.
The third difference is recruiting. A one year program has no summer internship in the US sense, and the hiring calendar is compressed. If you plan to return to the United States after the degree, read our guides to US recruiting from one year MBA programs and the one year MBA job search before you commit.
When Are the Deadlines for the Best MBA Programs in Europe?
The calendars differ more than the schools do. These are the deadlines still open as of October 2026 for entry in 2027.
| School | Calendar | Deadlines still open |
|---|---|---|
| INSEAD (August 2027 intake) | Four rounds | November 3, 2026; January 19, 2027; March 9, 2027 |
| IESE (September 2027 intake) | Four rounds | January 7, 2027; March 9, 2027; May 6, 2027 |
| London Business School (August 2027 intake) | Three rounds | January 6, 2027; March 22, 2027 |
| HEC Paris (January and September 2027 intakes) | Monthly deadlines | October 18 and November 15, 2026; then monthly from January 11 to June 14, 2027 |
| Oxford Saïd (September 2027 entry) | Five stages | October 5 and November 4, 2026; January 6 and March 15, 2027 |
| Cambridge Judge (September 2027 entry) | Five rounds | October 5, 2026; January 4, March 22 and May 4, 2027 |
| IE Business School | Rolling | No deadline; places are awarded by admission date |
If you are starting late in the cycle, the calendar narrows your list for you. IE admits on a rolling basis, HEC Paris reads applications every month, and Cambridge and IESE both list a final round in May 2027.
Which European MBA Should You Apply To?
Start from the constraint that matters most to you. If you want the least time out of work, look at the one year programs: INSEAD, Oxford and Cambridge. If you want more time and a longer runway before recruiting, look at London Business School and IESE. If you want the largest class and network, INSEAD and London Business School are the largest of the seven. If you want a small class, Cambridge and HEC Paris are the smallest.
Then check your test score against what each school publishes. A score near 635 on the current GMAT scale is at the published average or median for HEC Paris, Oxford and Cambridge. INSEAD looks at each section, so a strong total with a weak quantitative section is a problem there. Our GMAT prep guide covers retake planning, and our guides to building an MBA school list and the core pillars of an MBA application cover the rest of the file. If you are within two years of your undergraduate degree, the degree to look at is different: see masters in management vs MBA.
